Ambassador bids farewell call on Lao Standing DPM
On 24 March 2010 H.E.Mr.Wiboon Khusakul, Ambassador of Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E.Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad, Standing Deputy Prime Minister of the Lao PDR at the Prime Minister’s Office to bid farewell on the occasion of the completion of his mission. The Ambassador felicitated the success of the 25th SEA Games in Laos under supervision of the Standing Deputy Prime Minister. As Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat also chairs the committee preparing the celebrations for the 450th anniversary of Vientiane Capital, the Ambassador also informed that in October 2009, the Royal Thai Embassy offered kathin (monk robe) to Sisaket Temple and contributed around two million baht to the renovation fund of the temple. In addition, he mentioned about other bilateral collaborative projects which are progressing well, for instance, the third and the forth Thai-Lao Friendship Bridges construction project and the railway extension project. All of these affirm that Thai-Lao relations would be further promoted regardless of the domestic political difficulties in Thailand.
Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat acknowledged Thailand?s timely assistance to protect Vientiane from flood in August 2008 and her assistance in organizing the 25th SEA Games in December 2009. The Thai Prime Minister?s presence at the SEA Games opening ceremony, together with leaders of other countries, indicated that ASEAN leaders attach importance to sports promotion which would help strengthen the ASEAN socio-cultural pillar as well.
