Embassy Takes Lao Students to Field Trip in Nongkhai
On 9 June 2009, the Embassy in cooperation with Nongkhai Province, Nongkhai Provincial Administration Organization (NPAO), Khon Kaen University (Nongkhai Campus), Nongkhai Train Station and Orphan School of Vientiane Province organized a field trip to Nongkhai for 113 teachers and students of the Orphan School of Vientiane Province. The activity is part of the celebration of International Children?s Day on 1 June.
The group visited the Aquarium at Khon Kaen University (Nongkhai Campus) which has a collection of fresh water and sea water fish and other creatures for research. They also went to the Public Library at Nongkhai Train Station which is transformed from old train carriages.
Mr.Kawee Kittisataporn, Governor of Nongkhai, Mr.Yutthana Sritabut, President of NPAO, including officials and a number of Nongkhai students warmly welcomed and joined activities with the Lao visitors who were very impressed and returned home with fond memories.
On their return trip, the group took the train from Nongkhai to Thanaleng Station on the Lao side. The railway was officially opened on 5 March 2009. It is a historic railway that connects the capital cites of both countries.
