On 26 September 2023, Ambassador Morakot Sriswasdi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Lao PDR and Mr. Atipat Rojanapaibulya, Consul-General of the Kingdom of Thailand in Savannakhet, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Leklai Sivilay, Governor of Sekong Province. The issues that were discussed include (1) Monsoon Wind Power Project; (2) opportunities for Thai businesses to increase the import of agricultural products form Sekong Province, especially cassava and coffee; (3) forestation and reforestation; (4) cooperation between Sekong Province, Ubon Ratchathani of Thailand, and Kon Tum Province of Viet Nam.
On the same day, they had a meeting with Mr. Bounkhaen Xaysongkharm, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sekong Province to receive a briefing on economic and trade data, as well as exchanging views on business cooperation and exploring opportunities for enhancing Thai investment in Sekong Province. In addition, Ambassador Sriswasdi visited the Monsoon Wind Power Project in Dak Cheung District, Sekong Province, which is the first wind power generation project in the Lao PDR and the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, with an installed capacity of 600 MW. The project is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in 2025.
