On 19 February 2023, Ambassador Morakot Sriswasdi with a delegation from the Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane paid a visit to Hongsa Power Company. The delegation was welcomed and briefed by Mr. Kathayuth Chupoon, Managing Director of Hongsa Power Company Limited and Mr.Surawut Kosintrakulchai, Deputy Managing Director - Power Plant Operations.

Hongsa Thermal Power Plant is located in Hongsa City, Sayaboury province and uses lignite as its main fuel source with an installed capacity of approximately 1,878 MW. The company sells around 5% of the electricity generated to the Electricity State Enterprise of Laos and 95% or approximately 1,473 MW to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).

Hongsa Thermal Power Plant places its importance on environmental protection and human resource development with the aim to train and promote more Lao employees to managing level. The Plant also awards scholarships for students of the National University of Laos who will be offered suitable positions at the company after graduation. Another important project of the company is the establishment of the Hongsa Agricultural Learning Center for farmers and interested people, especially those who have been relocated for coal mining and power plant construction. The Learning Center emphasizes on the improvement of the local people’s livelihood by promoting alternative crops with high market demand and potential for agrotourism such as strawberries, pineapples, eggplants, mulberry trees, melons.
