On 28 April 2023, H.E. Ms. Morakot Sriswasdi, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Khamkhan Chanthavisouk, Governor of Luang Prabang province, on the occasion of her assumption of duty. Both sides welcomed close and fruitful relations between Thailand and the Lao PDR, especially the cooperation between Luang Prabang Province and northern provinces in Thailand. Both sides also discussed a wide range of cooperation, such as tourism and the support of the Royal Thai Government in infrastructure projects that enhances tourism capacity in and connectivity between both countries, namely the Hongsa - Baan Chiang Maen Road construction project that connects Nan and Luang Prabang Provinces. The ongoing project is the construction of Chiang Maen - Luang Prabang bridge across Mekong River, which will help facilitate the transportation from above-mentioned road to Luang Prabang City. Matters discussed also covered the Thai investment in Luang Prabang Province and common concerns over slash and burn agriculture as well as haze pollution in the region.
