On 7 August 2025, H.E. Ms. Morakot Sriswasdi, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, officially handed over an in-kind and in-cash support to the Meung Tea Producers Cooperative in Bokeo Province, with a total value of 1,164,780 THB. The support was received by Mr. Somphone Yemany, President of the Meung Tea Producers Cooperative. Also in attendance, as distinguished witnesses, were Mr. KhamphayaPhomphanya, Deputy Governor of Bokeo Province, and Mr. Chulvat Narinthrangura, Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. The assistance included a power generator valued at 989,780 THB, funded by TICA, along with an additional fund of 175,000 THB, provided by the Royal Thai Embassy, allocated for the renovation of tea leaf purchasing stations and a tea storage facility. The initiative is a part of the commemorative activities celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and the Lao PDR in 2025. The contribution directly benefits the local community and supports the implementation of the Lao PDR’s National Agenda on Drug Control (2021–2025). It aims to further strengthen the Meung Tea Producers Cooperative as a model for alternative development, by promoting the cultivation of organic tea as a sustainable and legal substitute for illicit crops, thereby enhancing quality of life and generating long-term, lawful income for local communities.
