On 21-22 June 2024, the Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane organised the Workshop on Thai Food and Desserts Cooking at the Integrated Technical-Vocational College of Xiengkhouang Province. The Workshop was conducted by Ms. Siriporn Jamnoiprom and Mr. Wasun Sommun, an experienced Thai chef and a hospitality staff from the Royal Thai Residence. There were 10 teachers and students from the College joining this exclusive workshop to learn about authentic recipes of Thai food and desserts as served at Thai Ambassadors’ Residence. The training includes a basic fruit and vegetable carving and preparing herbal drinks from local herbs.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane has conducted this Workshop since 2023 and aims to expand the project to cover as many Provinces in the Lao PDR as possible in the future. The objective of the Workshop is to advance participants’ basic cooking skills and to add dept the knowledge of exquisite cuisine, for both savory and sweet dishes. Considering that such training could contribute to tourism development in the Lao PDR, the Royal Thai Embassy wishes to encourage the participants to share their knowledge to others (‘train the trainers’) to enhance the opportunity for job creation and generating income to the local community in a more sustainable manner.
