On 27 June 2025, H.E. Ms. Morakot Sriswasdi, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, paid a courtesy call on Pol.Lt.Gen. Khamking Phuilamanivong, Deputy Minister of Public Security of the Lao PDR. Both sides expressed their appreciation with the success of activities held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Lao PDR, particularly on drug prevention and suppression.
This year, the Royal Thai Government, through the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), provided a budget of 100,000 THB to support the Lao National Commission for Drug Control and Supervision in producing media to raise public awareness about the dangers of drugs. Additionally, a budget of 1,385,334 THB was granted for the construction of a watchtower to monitor drug trafficking by land and water in Paktha District, Bokeo Province, Lao PDR. The completed tower was officially handed over by the ONCB to the Bokeo Provincial Police Headquarter on 6 June 2025.
During the meeting, the Ambassador also handed over 200,000 baht to the Deputy Minister to support the Ministry of Public Security of the Lao PDR in organizing a singing, poetry recitation, and short drama competition under the theme: “The Harmful Effects and Dangers of Drugs,” as part of efforts to support the national agenda on drug control of the Lao PDR. Both sides also exchanged views on alternative development projects in the Lao PDR, particularly in Vanmai Coffee Cooperative in Houaphan Province and Meung Tea Producers Cooperative in Bokeo Province, which are supported by the Royal Thai Government in 2024-2025.
