between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Lao PDR

On 14 September 2023, Ms. Morakot Srisawasdi, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR and H.E. Mrs. Suanesavanh Vignaket, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Lao PDR, co-presided over the Concert in celebration of the long cordial relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Lao PDR at the National College of Arts of the Lao PDR.

This Concert, jointly organised by the Royal Thai Embassy, the Ministry of Information Culture and Tourism of the Lao PDR, the College of Music, Mahidol University, and the National College of Arts, is preceded by a 3-day classical music workshop during 12-14 September 2023 for Lao youths and music instructors. The goals of the workshop are to promote skills development, exchange musical techniques, enhance teaching methods, and strengthen the network of elite musicians between the two nations.

On the evening of 14 September 2023, Thai and Lao musicians performed together at the enchanting Concert, with pieces symbolising the long and cordial ties between Thailand and the Lao PDR such as Mittraphap Thai-Lao and Jam Pa Mueang Laos aptly chosen for the occasion. The Concert also featured the AEC Harmony, a vocal ensemble of students from the Arts Education College (AEC) of the Lao PDR. The AEC Harmony was co-founded by Ms. Nattawadee Puangsuwan, a “Friends from Thailand” project, which is part of a development project of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. The project aims to enhance performing arts and music skills and knowledge of students and instructors in the Lao PDR by providing scholarships, instructional media and traditional musical instruments, as well as sending volunteers to offer arts and music trainings.

The Workshop and the Concert received positive feedback from students and audiences with more than 200 people from different sectors such as Diplomatic Corps in the Lao PDR, high level representatives from government sectors, press, and Thai and Lao private sector.
