On 22 August 2026, H.E. Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, presided over the opening ceremony of the Mekong Cultural Relations Project: Exchange of Mor Lam, Traditional Music and Folk Performing Arts between Thailand and the Lao PDR 2026, at the Lao National Art Ensemble Theatre. H.E. Ms. Champhone Vongsa, Director-General of the Department of Culture and Performing Arts, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Lao PDR, also co-presided over the opening ceremony on behalf of the Lao side.
The project was collectively organised by the Art and Cultural Center of Khon Kaen University, the National Performing Arts Division of the Lao PDR, and several cultural network partners. It aimed to promote cooperation in arts and culture, preserve and pass on traditional performing arts, and further strengthen cultural networks between Thailand and the Lao PDR. Artists and performers from both countries presented Mor Lam, traditional music, and folk performing arts reflecting the distinct identities and diversity of their respective communities. The performances also provided an opportunity for mutual learning through the arts, contributing to greater understanding and closer people-to-people ties between Thailand and the Lao PDR.
