On 11 September 2025, H.E. Ms. Morakot Sriswasdi, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, paid a courtesy and farewell call on H.E. Mr. Sonethanou Thammavong, Governor of Bolikhamxay Province, on the occasion of her completion of tenure at the end of September 2025. On this occasion, Ambassador Morakot congratulated the Governor for his recent election as the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, which took place in August.

 

Both sides noted with pleasure the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Lao PDR in 2025. In celebration of this milestone, the final casting ceremony of the 5th Thai – Lao Friendship Bridge (Beung Kan – Bolikhamxay) was held on 6 June 2025. It is hoped that the official opening ceremony of the bridge will be held soon, marking another historical event for the two countries.

 

In addition, both sides exchanged views on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various areas, including joint efforts to prevent and suppress narcotic drugs trafficking and cybercrime, strengthening cooperation between Bolikhamxay Province and Thailand’s bordering provinces, namely Bueng Kan, Nong Khai and Nakhon Phanom. Both sides also expressed appreciation for the close people-to-people ties and shared cultural traditions, such as long boat racing and Naga Fireball Festival.
