H.E. Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, visited Nan Province on 23 - 24 June 2026. On this occasion, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Mr. Chainarong Wongyai, Governor of Nan Province, on 23 June 2026. Both sides discussed the possible cooperation between Nan Province and the Lao PDR, as Nan Province shares a border with Sayaboury Province. Additionally, the Province also expressed its interest to establish a partner-city with Luang Prabang Province due to close cultural ties and people-to-people exchanges.
On 24 June 2026, the Ambassador attended the Opening Ceremony of a Special Border Marker to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Lao PDR, presided over by H.E. Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Mr. Anouparb Vongnorkeo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR. Located at the Ban Huai Kon Border Checkpoint between Chaloem Phra Kiat District of Nan Province and Muang Ngeun of Sayaboury Province, Lao PDR. This special border marker symbolizes the close ties between the peoples of both countries and reflects the commitment of both governments to develop the border areas into zones of enduring peace, prosperity, and sustainability.
