The Royal Thai Embassy, Vientiane and Thai private sector in Lao PDR jointly organized merit making ceremony on Makha Bucha day at Ong Teu Mahavihan temple    

On 1 March 2023, the Royal Thai Embassy, Vientiane together with the representatives from Thai private sector in Vientiane held  a merit making ceremony on Makha Bucha Day at Ong Teu Mahavihan Temple in Vientiane.

At the ceremony, Ms. Morakot Sriswasdi, Ambassador of Thailand to Lao PDR, Mr. Thamnong Pholthongmak, President of the Thai Business Association in Lao PDR, members of Team Thailand and their spouses, Embassy staff and representatives of Thai private sector in Lao PDR presented their offerings to 9 members of the Sanga. On this occasion, the group and other devotees also provided contributions of approximately 300,000 baht to support the restoration of the first Sangha college’s building in Lao PDR, which is located at Temple and currently in dilapidated condition.

Ong Teu Mahavihan temple is one of the oldest temples in Vientiane with historical significance. It is home to the Ong Teu Sangha College, the largest Buddhist college in Lao PDR. The college is under the supervision of the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organization and the Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR and has approximately 250 student monks. At present, the college offers a bachelor's degree in Buddhism along with general subjects.
