On 28 April 2026, H.E. Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mrs. Baykham Khattiya, Minister of Health of the Lao PDR, on the occasion of the former’s assumption of duties. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the close and longstanding cooperation in public health between Thailand and the Lao PDR. Discussions covered key areas of collaboration, including the development of medical and public health personnel under the royal initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, which has been implemented since 2000. To date, 1,171 public health personnel from the Lao PDR have participated in this programme. The two sides also exchanged views on strengthening public health cooperation between provinces along the Thailand–Lao PDR border, particularly in communicable disease control and cross-border patient referral systems. In addition, the implementation of the “Love for Humanity” project was highlighted. Under this initiative, the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, conducted hip and knee replacement surgeries for more than 50 underprivileged patients in the Lao PDR, while also transferring advanced surgical knowledge and skills to doctors and nurses at Mittaphab Hospital. The project was carried out from 4–7 May 2026.
