On 26 February 2026, Mr. Sung Ho Hwang, Officer-in-Charge of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Lao PDR, together with his delegation, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, to express his congratulations on the occasion of her assumption of duty. Both sides expressed their appreciation for the close cooperation between the Royal Thai Government and UNODC, particularly the successful co-organization of the international conference entitled “The Global Partnership against Online Scams” in December 2025. They also welcomed the achievements of the cooperation between the Royal Thai Embassy and UNODC in Lao PDR over the past period, especially the support for the “Vanmai Coffee Cooperative” project, an alternative development initiative promoting coffee cultivation in replacement of opium poppy farming in Houaphanh Province, as well as the joint organization of training activities under the forensic capacity-building programme. In addition, both sides exchanged information on the situation of cybercrime in Southeast Asia and efforts to combat money laundering.
