On 23 July 2026 H.E. Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, attended the opening ceremony of a training course on “Small-Scale Chemistry Project for Secondary Schools in the Lao PDR” organised by the Chemical Society of Thailand, in collaboration with the Department of General Education, Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR, for 100 secondary school chemistry teachers from 22 districts across 4 provinces of the Lao PDR, namely Xaisomboun Province, Bolikhamxay Province, Vientiane Province, and Vientiane Capital, during 23 - 24 July 2026. The Ambassador emphasised the importance of promoting science education in the Lao PDR, which is a crucial foundation for the sustainable development of human resources in the country.

The project aimed to provide knowledge and skills in designing simple chemistry experiments that are safe, economical, convenient, time-efficient, and environmentally friendly, thereby creating opportunities for students in remote areas to learn through hands-on experimentation. The activity was financially supported by Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited. Moreover, many dignitaries also attended the opening ceremony such as Dr. Larkham Vongkamsan, Head of the Office of the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao PD, Prof. Dr. Supawan Tantayanon, Professor Dr. Supawan Tantayanon, Director of the BBL–CST Small-Scale Chemistry Progra, and Mrs. Chadaporn Urajchat, Executive Vice President and Branch Manager, Vientiane Capital Branch, Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited.

During the two-day training, participating teachers conducted a variety of experiments, including (1) Interdiffusion of Gases, (2) Electrochemical Separation of Copper, (3) Solubility of Ammonia, and (4) Electrolysis of Water. The activities provided teachers with hands-on experience in conducting experiments, which they can subsequently apply in their classrooms. Following the training, the Chemical Society of Thailand will hold a competition and select 10 teachers from the Lao PDR to receive further training as trainers and participate in the Small-Scale Chemistry Laboratory Instructor Networking event in Thailand.
