During 10 - 13 August 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane, in cooperation with the College of Public Affairs and Policy, Khon Kaen University, organised a study visit to Khon Kaen Province for a delegation from the Organisation Commission of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP), led by Mr. Done Phayvong, Vice Chairman of the Commission, to observe the local governance system in Thailand. On 13 August 2026, H.E. Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, attended the opening ceremony and a reception hosted in honor of the delegation, together with Mr. Kajornkiat Rakpanichmanee, Governor of Khon Kaen Province, and Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University.

During the visit, the delegation visited (1) Muang Sila Municipality, (2) Nam Phong District Office, (3) Tha Phra Subdistrict Administrative Organization, and (4) Pa Wai Nang Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital in Ban Fang District, Khon Kaen Province. The purpose of the said visit was to gain knowledge on Thailand's local administration system aimed at achieving excellence in comprehensive public service.

This study visit, at the request of the Lao PDR, was a result of the Lao PDR’s establishment of the "Taseng", a local administrative unit, equivalent to Thailand's subdistrict (tambon) level in 2025. The Lao PDR thus wished to study Thailand’s model of decentralisation for further possible adaptation.
