On 6 - 8 July 2026, H.E. Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to the Lao PDR, paid a visit to Luang Prabang and Xayaburi Provinces. The purpose of the visit was to pay courtesy calls on the provincial leadership and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between these two provinces and neighboring Thai provinces.

In Luang Prabang Province, the Ambassador met and discussed with Mr. Bounleua Sinxayvoravong, the Chairman of the Luang Prabang Provincial Administrative Committee, while in Xayaburi Province, the Ambassador held talks with Mr. Douangta Xayvouth, the Chairman of the Xayaburi Provincial Administrative Committee. In both provinces, the Ambassador discussed the issues of cooperation between these two provinces and the Thai border provinces, focusing on trade, investment, as well as cultural exchanges and people-to-people contact.

Furthermore, the Ambassador visited the Xayaburi Hydroelectic Power Plant, a major Thai investment in clean energy in the Lao PDR, which also contributes to regional energy security.
