On 10 July 2025, H.E. Ms. Morakot Sriswasdi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Lao PDR, and H.E. Mrs. Daravone Kittiphanh, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR, co-presided over the Thai – Lao Cultural Performance: A Celebration of Friendship to Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and the Lao PDR. The event was held at the National Cultural Hall, Vientiane, and was attended by more than 500 guests. These included the Chairperson of the Justice Committee of the Lao National Assembly, the Deputy Minister of Justice, the Deputy Minister of Technology and Communications, the Vice President of the Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor, the Vice Chairman of the Constituencies Affairs Committee and the Vice President of the Lao-Thai Parliamentarians’ Friendship Group, the Vice President of Lao Women’s Union, and the President of the Lao-Thai Association for Friendship, as well as high level representatives of the Lao public sector, Diplomatic Corps, representatives of international organisations, Thai and Lao artists, as well as Thai and Lao private sectors.

The Thai – Lao Cultural Performance showcased a vibrant exhibition of all 76 entries submitted to the Art Competition under the theme “75 Years of Harmony: Thailand–Laos Relations” alongside more than 50 artworks by Thai artists who participated in an art workshop held on 5-6 May 2025 at the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Savannakhet Province. On this occasion, the Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of the Lao PDR, on behalf of the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Lao PDR, presented the Special Award from the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Lao PDR to nine winners of the Competition.

The event also featured a collaborative classical music performance by Mahidol Faculty Ensemble and teachers and students of the National College of Arts of the Lao PDR. This performance followed a three-day classical music workshop, held from 7 – 9 July 2025, co-organised by the Royal Thai Embassy and Mahidol University’s College of Music. The workshop aimed to enhance the performance skills and techniques in classical music performance of teachers and students at the National College of Arts.

Another highlight of the cultural performance was a traditional Thai Nora dance performed by Assistant Professor Thammanit Nikomrat, Thai National Artist in Performing Arts in 2021, and his troupe. The finale performance was the Fon Lamvong Lao presented by the Lao National Art Ensemble. These two performances reflects the unique and shared cultural heritage of the two nations, both of which has been inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Throughout 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Lao PDR, organised a series of cultural and artistic events throughout the year 2025 to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Thailand – Laos Diplomatic Relations. The events have been made possible through the cooperation and generous support of a group of Thai artists led by Professor Amrit Chusuwan, Thai National Artist in Visual Arts (Painting – Mixed Media) in 2020, along with the College of Music, Mahidol University, Songkhla Pavilion, Sikarin Foundation for Development, and the Esarn Artists Association.
